EA for making Application Landscape
« on: February 17, 2009, 12:52:23 am »
Hi there,
I am new to EA, our company has 10 licenses and I am wondering if EA can help me achieve what I need to do. Basically I need to make an application landscape for our department, including the following capabilities (if possible):
- a visual representation of all applications in our department (and those interfaced immediately outside it)
- any interfaces between apps shown as a single line between those apps
- the app landscape should be viewable through different 'filters' or overlays. For example, just show all the apps and flows related to the Shopping process, or Repair process
- ideally if a user double clicks on the application you receive more info about that application and a link to documentation
- if a user double clicks on an interface it should expand to show all the different interfaces behind that simplified line, maybe with input/out data and pre-post conditions etc
- since this landscape will be too big to print on an A4 or A3, have the ability to split the diagram and only show certain parts at once

If I have entered all the information than I will want to start using EA for more of our Enterprise requirements, but that's step 2. I have seen Visio which does do quite a lot of what I want, but I will need to become a Visio programmer to achieve it, and then the information is not re-usable. So I really hope that EA can do what I want.

Hope someone can help me,

David
