background colour for elements
« on: February 25, 2009, 01:41:52 am »
Hello everyone
I have a diagram on which I have colour coded the elements.
This diagram appears under a package that is under source control.
When another user resynchs with this package the colour coding is lost.
Has anyone any idea why this happens?

cheers

Graham

Hi Graham,

My guess - and it is only a guess, given that I don't know the details of your situation - is that you are probably using some feature of EA that is not automatically shared in a model.

It all depends on how you "have colour coded" the elements.

If you turned on colours via the Tools | Options settings, then this setting is probably stored on your machine as a registry setting. [I do not know for sure, so test this before you get too far.] In that case you'd need to turn this option on - as well as turning on element shadows; both settings are required - for each user.

If you have added your own status codes to your model, these are probably (check this as well) stored as Reference Data. This needs to be exported from your model and imported to each user. Or it could be updated on the 'core' shared model. Note that EA reference data is not covered by source control.

HTH, David

Hi David
Seem to have solved this one
Initially I set the background colour using the default appearance and as stated this did not work
If I use the tool bar to set the background colour it only applies to the current diagram but the colours are seen by my fellow developers :)
Cheers
Graham

That makes sense Graham. When you set the appearance on individual diagrams this setting is applied to the diagram object rather than the element itself. This is stored in the model as part of the diagram object record.

You could probably set the appearance of the element itself (using F4) and get similar results. This should set the element record. Of course this would affect how the element appears on all diagrams, which might not be what you want to achieve.

Except of course where it has been overridden by the format toolbar.

Oops. I should have mentioned that.

Thanks Simon.
