SYSML help in Enterprise Architect
« on: November 22, 2008, 02:25:46 pm »
Hi
I just purchased Enterprise Architect and the SYSML addon and I'm trying to use it for a SYSML class I'm taking right now. I am having some growing pains learning EA. I have been looking at the SYSML Example that comes with the tool to get some ideas on how to do stuff.

1) Is there a step-by-step tutorial on how to build SYSML Example that comes with EA? That would be a great help.

2) Is there any guide on building parametric diagrams? I know there is an example in the SYSML Example but it is very limited.

3) And the last point is related to Relationship Matrix. I like to show the allocation between the "blocks" and "actions". This is "SYSML Allocation" as oppose to normal allocation. Based on the SYSML example I can use a search to show the relationship in a crude form ($search://Name=SysML Allocations;)
I tried going to View --> Relationship Matrix but it doesn't show the allocations. I am guessing that is because these are "SYSML Allocation". Is there a way to make Relationship Matrix show "SYSML Allocation"?

Thanks

Armando

I'm looking for this too....its also pretty hard to recreate somethin once its done in the same manner as done once. Somehow EA does not repeat its own performance using SysML. Initially, we thought we were forgetting what we did and so our button-clicks sequence was flawed but after we started documenting our steps and then started repeating activities, every 2nd or 3rd time we hit a roadblock, and then all of a sudden the 4th or 5th time the same sequence would work!!!! Weird!!! Anyone else see this....

Going byt he SysML Tutorial, EA does not actually support all SysML constructs or features. For instance- When we use Actions in an activity diagram, that invokes a lower level activity (with defined parameters), for some reason we do not see any Embedded Elements for the related Action at the higher level? Why? We should have some sort of relation automated by EA to allow for the defined parameters of a low level activity to show up as embedded elements or as action pins on an action that is used at a higher level Activity diagram! But its not working for us. We do have a Data Model defined and the parameters are linked via "Instance classification" as the Data Model elements. Now, if there is a particular sequence to follow then please do get back to us with it as we may have missed something but things like these are not very well documented or stated out in any of the references we have on EA!

Brings me to my other question which i believe i have asked earlier- Is there ANY REFERENCE at all that documents EA usage with SysML Add-on? Haven't come across one YET! Even Sparx-support haven't been ableto guide me to one! Which means what.....??? Something to be concerned about as even the 7.5 Release does not come with much documentation to address these issues or does it?

There is a section on SysML 1.1 and Parametric Diagrams in the Help for EA 7.5 Beta 2, released yesterday. Does this meet your requirements?
Best Regards, Roy

Thanks Roy, will check to see if it does and get back to you. Is it accessible easily? We are using Rel 7.1, not 7.5 Beta2.

Hmmm i'm afraid i will have to download Rel 7.5 Beta 2 and then once installed, i can access help files. Unless there is an alternative way, please get back to me if so.
