Store data in EA BPMN model
« on: April 10, 2009, 01:57:41 am »
Hi Forum,

In our model we're looking to have "SIPOC” (Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer) info captured and stored.

For each process, we need to capture a range of information that we can’t see how to do in a slick way at the moment.

This includes:
- “Process Owner” per process step
- Inputs and Outputs per process step, including:
    - Direct link to which entity in the data model we are referring to
    - Who the Supplier / Customer is per Input / Output
    - What acceptance criteria there is about that Input or Output
- What data is Created, Read, Updated and Deleted per process step and why

At the moment we can see that you can use “Information Flow” lines and attach information items to link to any other part of the model, but it is not possible to provide further information about

Also, our process designers are using separate Visio maps and Excel spreadsheets (one per process step) to capture this information, but clearly this is a maintenance nightmare.

If we can capture the links in EA, we could then create reports to:
Enable navigation between elements in HTML
Create a document showing the SIPOCs per process step across a process
Create a report showing which processes create, read, update and delete a piece of data

Do you know of a way to do these in EA?

Thank you very much :)

I don't know much about BPMN,  but what is wrong with using the "information flow" and its "informationItems conveyed"?
Doesn't that give you the traceability required to link the results of processes to informationitems?
Once it is in EA you can create your documents and reports.
I know the "informationitems conveyed" is still a little weak on features (no easy navigation etc..) but I think it is the only way.
