Search accessible in project
« on: April 17, 2009, 01:18:40 am »
Is it possible to define search that will be accessible to all people that are using a model?
Right now custom searches are saved in local xml but I can't expect several dozen people to import searches that are created.

Regards
Kris

The recommended approach (and the approach we use here) is to add the searches into an MDG technology that everyone then links to.

See http://www.sparxsystems.com/uml_tool_guide/sdk_for_enterprise_architect/working_with_mts_files.html

Hi Kris,

Remember that you can either distribute the MDG Technology file, or set up a common URL that each local EA installation points to.

The URL (or folder) can hold several MDG Technologies, and you can have several such locations set up. You can use these locations to set up, and segregate, groups of MDG Technologies that different groups of users might want to access.

This is mentioned in Simon's link, but only briefly. After the front end work of setting up an MDG Technology - don't panic; the effort can be worthwhile - it is easy to overlook the details of distribution. Given the number of times it comes up in forum question I thought it worth mentioning here. Look for it in the documentation and you'll quickly get the idea.
