EA Models: Mass Diagram ElementsTransformation

Hi Forum,

I've created a model successfully in EA, and my question is around:

1. How do quickly transform all the elements of a specified type (e.g. activities) into another element type (e.g. business process) on a mass scale (e.g. all activities within the diagram to transform into business processes)?

Background:Ideally, I'd not like to write any code or script to achieve this, and the functionality exists within EA to do it on a singular scale (change an element in the diagram into another element type by drag and drop on top of it)

If it's possible to select all of a 'type' on the diagram, and then mass transform them to another 'type', this would be very useful.

I do not think so, there is something like this in EA. You will have to use API :-P

This is potentially a new feature request in EA for a diagram-to-diagram transformation utility which I will support strongly. The downside is that it may never be realised by Sparxsystems.

On the other hand if you are in a hurry, you are advised to get your hands dirty a little bit and play around with the transformation scripts in EA.

A "dirty" version of this may be developed re-using one of the  transformation templates shipped with EA. The limitations of this obviously is the requirement for UML metamodel and EA transform scripting. This may not appeal to you.

I am sure other users with more experience in this area will be able to help.

Take some time to search for recent forum discussion regarding creating diagrams with transformation scripts. There doesn't seem to be any firm answer - perhaps the Sparxians will clear this up sometime soon - about when and how to create diagrams via scripts. When I last looked it appeared that some diagram types could not be created this way, while others might only be created for specific situations.

Sorry to muddy the waters like this, but there seem to be some open questions in this regard.

Perhaps someone has this clearly worked out. If so, please post to tell the rest of us what works, what does not, and how to push the right buttons.
