Business Rules - Decision Tables
« on: April 21, 2009, 05:06:41 am »
Hello,

As we define detailed business rules within EA, there are many occasion where the use of a decision tables is appropriate.

It appears the choices for decision table storage are either the Notes Field or as an Attached file.

Is there a better approach?

Thanks,
Paul

Unfortunately the Notes field does not support tables.  The only way to get a table into EA is to use a Linked Document, attached to the element.

This is problematic because Linked Documents are not "real" elements in the Model, and therefore cannot be linked to other elements, searched on, baselined, etc.

I've requested table support be added to elements' Notes field; I don't know if/when this will happen though...

I had a play with the rule composer as we have rules based decision making and it looked as if it would be a big help in defining the rules from the requirements in a form the developers can easily interpret.
