Mac and crossover installation
« on: June 30, 2009, 12:30:46 pm »
Hi,

I followed the instructions to install EA on Mac, with crossover win98 bottle.

Then I wondered if desktop version of EA can be installed on XP bottle without IE or DCOM98. I tried it, seems to work ok. played around with the example project, seems ok.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you only need DOM98 and MDAC if you're reverse engineering? I'm puzzled by why you need IE6 at all. All links opens in Safari anyways??? :-?

Can anyone else try it and see if they come up with any problems.

Yes I know it's not the ideal solution, but it seems ok until sparx ports to a native mac version.

Thanks

Masoud

Masoud,

Am not sure if the following will help you at all.

I am not using Crossover with my Mac - have been using Parallels.  I have installed EA and even did an upgrade from Desktop to Professional.  Everything works like a treat.

Cheers,
Chun

Hi Chun,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes parallels seems good too. I am leaning towards crossover for several reasons, one is that EA is the only win program I'll be running, and I can't really justify the cost for a full blown emulator and a win licence.

Crossover seems ok to me, I am just a little confused at the instructions on sparx, ie. why install IE6 etc.

We use EA on windows at work, since all our development is done on windows. However for my mac application development projects, I think EA would be very useful.

I am still hoping for native mac EA in the future.

Anyway thanks.
