RTF Template Problems
« on: July 16, 2009, 11:59:08 pm »
Hi,

as stated already in my previous post, I'm having lots of trouble with templates.

I created an empty template, exported out company template from Word to rtf and imported it in EA. Here are the problems:

1.) The Header always disappears, I have to manually display it every time. The problem is, that our logo and address stuff takes lot of space in the header. If it is not visible, I don't know how my space is left.

2.) In my original template, I use a table with one row and 4 columns in the footer. In EA, the first column's width is extended to the full page. I can use the mouse cursor to find the invisible cell borders outside the page to resize it. After everything looks fine, I save and close it. When I reopen it, the first column is again as big a before. Which means I can't change it!!

3.) The when I formatted everything as desired and generated the document, it is empty except the heading, our logos and the text Pkg.Name. This is really weired. Maybe its because the tags have been reformatted as well? Normally these "package>" tags are with yellow background but now the seem to be formatted with some of my styles. I'm not sure if this is a problem because I can still unselect items in the sections-tree and they disappear in my document.

4.) Undoing seems to be quite buggy or just not work sometimes.

Since EA's modelling features are really powerful, I hop I can get these templates to since I only have to build them one time and never have to touch them again.

Thanks,

Jan
Thanks

OK,

I just tried and started to create a whole new template. So point 3) seems to work now. I get all packages and child packages.

One thing, that seems to be odd is numbering of headings. In my original template, all heading have one font (including text and number). IN EA template editor, the text is OK but the numbers are formatted in another (maybe the default) font. What may be related to this issue is thatAll my headings appear in the syles list but the are not used anymore. EA created/uses other headings (heading 1...) that look the same as my heading except the numbering. And My headings are not paragraph but character styles...

If found a problem why my first attempt to create template mighht have failed. I created a package section. Then inserted a diagram and its picture and name. Then I seleceted the fields and reformatted them using my style template. I saved it and genearted the documents. But instead of the diagram, I saw the text {diagram.name}. I retured to the editor and saw that the field that I reformatted earlier now had dow brackets like this {{Diagram.Name}}!?!?

I deleted the fields and reinserted it and then it worked.

If found out the problem cause when I created a new footer table from scratch. Everything works until I insert a horizontal line. When I insert this line (its still vector based and can be edited in EA) above the table, save and reopen, the first column of the table is expanded as wide as the horizontal line above. Now I used the cell border ti create this line and it works.

But the whole template editor seems to be a bit error-prone to me...
