how to move part of a diagram into a new diagram?
« on: July 16, 2009, 11:07:43 pm »
Hi all!

When an activity diagram gets too big I would like to move parts of it into a new diagram. I want to create a new activity in the current diagram which links to the new diagram (as composite element).

Is there any function for this in EA?

Until now I do this manually:
- create new composite activity element
- select all elements to be moved in current diagram
- copy
- open new diagram by double clicking composite element
- paste as new elements
- delete in first diagram

But then I have to re-create all the flow arrows again :-(

You could try copying the diagram.
Then editing each diagram to keep the parts you want.
Orthogonality rules
Position and Team disestablished, thanks austerity.
Now itinerant.

Hi ps_ea,

try dragging elements you want "under" your new composite activity in Project Browser. Then drag moved elements into new composite diagram and flows should remain as they were before, except flows "on the edge" of area you were moving - you would need to re-create them anyway.
Then you can delete moved elements from original diagram (not ctrl+del, just del).
