Gernerate Documentation for Selected Models?
« on: July 22, 2009, 04:23:53 pm »
Hey,
I was just wondering if I can generate documentation only for these models I selected in the project browser.

Let's I have 2-3 Models related to Business and Project Management stuff, the next two models are Use-Cases and Requirements, then 3 models for software design and so on...

Is it possible to only have some, but more than one model in an output document?

Thanks,

Jan

Find "Virtual Document" or "Model Document" in the EA help

Wow... Luis, thanks for your help! I'm impressed... There little things in EA that you tend to overlook, but which provide rich functionality!

OK, so, compiling my custom package list works perfect. But, I cannot generate the document. I followed the following steps:

- I generated a new package called "Documentation"
- I added a documentation diagram
- I added a model document
- I dragged the requirements package into the model document ekement
- I selected our corporate template within the tagged values field.
- I selected the model document element

Now the help sais: Click on "Element/Gengerate RTF.." But this is deactivated/greyed out.

What now?

1. Have you activated the security in your project? then check your permissions.

2. If not, try selecting the model document and hit F8

Any other idea??

Hi Luis,

1.) no I didn't change anything

2.) F8 actually works! But is somewhat strange, that neither context menu nor the main menu provides this option... maybe this is a bug?

It is just the way things work when using virtual documents. The feature that F8 invokes is available on the per-package level via the context menu of the model browser tree.
No, you can't have it!

 :-?

Don't you think a bit indifferent about that, do you? :) Shouldn't there be a menu in the first place, and then a shortcut to the menu and not the other way around?

Ok, whatever... Now I know how to do it...  :-X

Please don't get me wrong Jan.

I am not saying I like the situation. But some things we in the community here have come to accept. It seems our efforts to inspire change are better spent elsewhere. Why some of these quirks seem to be unchangeable remains a mystery. Some time ago one of the gurus coined a term for it.

Search the forum for EAUI and you will soon get the picture.  :-X

I will submit a request - for the sake of consistency (ouch!) - for the Generate RTF Report option to be made available on the element context menus from the diagram and Project Browser.

F8 is linked to the Main menu option (the menu running across the top of the EA workspace). There is a menu option there, Rich Text Format (RTF) Report....  I don't know why that would be greyed out for you (if that is what you were looking at?) - it worked well for me. I will also ask if the F8 text can be put in after that option.
Best Regards, Roy

Roy,

I'm not the one who wants to create unnecessary work ;) It's just, if there is no menu, no context menu showing this feature and, moreover, this feature is greyed out, how do you know that it is working?

And for me, it's always greyed out. No matter what element I select. I couldn't find any way to eneble this menu item (Element/Richt Text Format Report)!?!?

We've just received our full license, so from now I can also file an issue, if you'd like to.

Please do submit a bug report. Please provide detailed steps with the exact text of menu options and any screen messages displayed. I can't see why the option is greyed out, but perhaps the support guys can work it out.
