I have several Access databases that open without any problems in MS Access 2003. EA (version 7.5.847, 30 day trial running in "Ultimate" mode) is unable to import the schemas from these databases. Here is the procedure I'm using.
1) Create a new data model diagram.
2) Start the "Import DB Schema from ODBC Source" utility from Database Engineering under the Project menu.
3) Click on the elipsis button to the right of the database name prompt.
4) From the "Select Data Source" dialog, I select the "Machine Data Source" tab and choose the "MS Access Database" option.
5) From the "Select Database" dialog, I select the database .mdb file and click OK.
6) On the "Import DB schema from ODBC source dialog, I click on "Import". (I accept all of the default values for the options listed in the dialog.)
7) EA retrieves the list of objects from the ADBC source and prompts me to select which database objects to import. I click on "Select All" and then click "OK".

EA attempts to retrieve details for the selected objects and immediately displays an error message stating: "Unrecognized database format" followed by the path to the Access database.
I also tried going into MS Access and saving the database file in Access 97 format, but that didn't work either. MS Access itself seems to have no problem with the database. I have tried this with about a dozen Access databases, but I always run into this error.
I need this feature to work in order to justify purchasing EA! Is there a fix for this?
