BPMN Events: Distinction of Intermediate Events
« on: January 08, 2009, 09:49:52 pm »
Is there the possibility to distinguish between
  • Intermediate Event (catching)
  • Intermediate Event (throwing)
as in the notation here: http://bpt.hpi.uni-potsdam.de/pub/Public/BPMNCorner/BPMN1_1_Poster_EN.pdf

Thank you for your support.

Catching and throwing events are new to BPMN 1.1 which will be supported in EA 7.5 (first beta due out soon).

Hi,

I am also searching for catching and throwing Intermediate Events. I have installed EA 7.5 but only found Catching Events.

Thanks,
christine

Ah, if you use a BPMN 1.0 Intermediate Event and set a Link you get a throw event. If you use BPMN 1.1 you get a catch event. I can now draw both events. The only problem is, that I have to switch between different tools.

That sounds odd to me too. Surely that was not the intended result. Perhaps an email to Sparx Support is in order. If you send one, please post back to tell the rest of us about Sparx' reply.

Since Sparx is in the Land of AUS you have some time to play with this a bit. You might find a tweak that solves the problem. [The documentation on the EA BPMN profile is pretty thin, so the solution could be hiding in plain sight somewhere.] Watch this thread though, as someone might have the answer at hand.

You can switch the type (catch or throw) by modifying the Tagged Value. Open the event's properties dialog and select the Tagged Value, and maybe you can find the value to select the type.

Hi,

thanks, you are right. You can switch between catch and throw in BPMN 1.1 Tagged Values!

in relation to this query, may i know how to distinguish via script?

"Is there the possibility to distinguish between
Intermediate Event (catching)
Intermediate Event (throwing)"

EA.TaggedValue.Name
EA.TaggedValue.Value
EA.TaggedValue.FQName
EA.TaggedValue.ObjectType
etc..

cant seem to find the right attribute to distinguish between Intermediate Event (catching vs. throwing)

Thanks
