Including external diagrams in rtf document

Hello.   Can anyone recommend the best approach to the following :

- I am reporting on a particular branch in the project browser, as usual iterating though packages/elements.  That's all fine
- I want to include a diagram from another branch that is outside the active branch I'm reporting on.

What do you suggest ?

I'm creating an additional document in the branch against which I'm reporting, and dragging a diagram frame onto this empty diagram for the external diagram outside the branch being reported on - if you follow me.

This new diagram/diagram frame is then included in the report and also reflects changes made in the external diagram.   So this works but wondered if there's a better method.
