Display all elements linked to selected element
« on: November 27, 2009, 07:14:10 am »
Hi all

I am sure this is possible but I haven't yet managed to find instructions on how to do so. I have a very large class model split over a number of separate diagrams - each focusing on a different facet of the model.

What this means is a diagram may only display selected links for any particular class. However, is there any way to automatically display ALL links - along with the linked elements - for a chosen class? At the moment the only way I have found to do this is by manually reviewing the contents of the "Relationships Window" for the selected class and adding the listed elements one by one.

Thanks in advance,

Roger

Hey Roger,

There is a few ways you can do this, depending on your needs.

(only for 1 level)
1. The Relationships window (View -> More Windows -> Relationships or Ctrl + Shift + 2). This will give you a quick overview of all the relationships of this element in your model.

(only for 1 level)
2. The Relationships Matrix (View --> Relationship Matrix). The limitation with this is you will only be able to see one connector type at once. Not bad if your only using one connector, limited if there are more.

(for multiple levels)
3. For a more detailed View you could create a traceability diagram. To do this, create a new custom diagram, drop in the element in question onto it. Right click the element: Add - > Related elements then select your element level to 2. That will get all the elements related to this element, and all elements related to those. I am guessing this will be your best option to display all links, along with the linked elements.

Hope this helps

The Hierarchy window might also show you what you want to display.
