Owned diagrams in hierarchy view
« on: November 28, 2009, 01:05:44 pm »
Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and new to Enterprise Architect. Currently I am trying to get familiar with the software by going through the EAExample project. I've noticed that some elements "own" other diagrams, which makes it easy to follow them. The example I'm referring to is the Requirements Model -> Use Case Model -> Manage Users the Use Case diagram. The use case 'Create Account' has this little symbol in the oval (looks like goggles), possibly indicating a link to another digram. When you double click the oval, you get redirected to another diagram, in this case an Analysis Diagram. I still haven't figured out how to do this, but I think it's neat. Can some tell me, if
1) this has something to do with the fact that the use case owns other elements
2) how I can link a use case (or any other element, where applicable) to some other diagram that opens, if I double click the elemnt?

Your help his highly apprciated.

Cheers

The little 8 on it's side indicates a diagram link that is intended to show the underlying structure (or behavior) of the element.  You can create subordinate diagrams by right clicking an element in a diagram then choosing Advanced->Make Composite.  The diagram created lies below the element in the Project Browser.

Search the help for 'Make Composite' for more details.  Search the forum for posts on how to make the feature work for diagrams that were not created using the 'Make Composite' feature, I remember information being posted about this a while ago.  Set the search to at least a year.

Stan.

Sweet, thank you very much, though I'm little bit confused. I though I tried all the menu entries. Well, who knows, but you solved my problem! Thanks!

P.S.: I forgot to add: this entry explains composits.
