Diagram display
« on: November 26, 2009, 05:39:30 am »
Is there a way to open diagrams as daughter windows instead of tabs? I frequently want to look at multiple diagrams and flipping between tabs all the time makes me dizzy. :o

Not quite. That is a discussion about moving between tabs. I want the diagrams to be floating windows in and of themselves just like you are able to do with the project browser, toolbox, etc. In other words I want to be able to see multiple diagrams at the same time, like Excel spreadsheets, not have to switch between them.

You can open multiple instances of EA.

While that does work there are significant deficiencies and issues with doing so. Each instance requires a full load of all the tools and window parts and you can only use the tool boxes within that instance. Memory usage is much higher and the full window set chews up most of your monitor real estate. I want to be able to view and edit multiple diagrams simultaneously using one toolbox, one set of menus, etc. and not take up a quarter of the screen with extraneous window dressing. This is the way Office applications function and it makes a big difference.

I will submit an enhancement request.

Unfortunately, the zip file in the above link's post was removed because it seems that nobody is interested in the add-in.

I will check the add-in and post it to the community site. Please wait for a while.

Ok, I found in my hard disk the Add-In.

It's uploaded in http://www.box.net/shared/3z05rj110d

It's only 12 KB, but works fine!! you can open several diagrams in separete resizable windows.

Regards,

Thank you. It does help to compare diagrams. I was hoping I would be able to edit them as well. I put in the enhancement request so hopefully that will be included in a future release.

Unfortunately, the installer batch file doesn't run under Crossover, leaving use Linux and Mac users out in the cold.
