UML Profile - Linking diagram types to profile
« on: October 16, 2008, 02:57:41 am »
How do i do this?

what I want is either to create a new diagram type for my UML profile, or set  an existing diagram type  so  when  it is selected the correct profile toolbox is provided.

You can definitely do what you want.

The explanation is prohibitively lengthy though. It is all in the EA help file, under the MDG Technologies section. You need to both define the diagram profile and the toolbox pages. Follow the directions exactly.

In particular, there is some inconsistent and overlapping terminology (both) that can be a bit confusing. Just follow along. Pay particular attention to making the names of things agree precisely everywhere. Case and punctuation are significant.

One other thing. You may notice that the documentation seems to suggest two different ways of saving a profile: sometimes by working with a package, other times by working with a single diagram. This is significant (the fact that both ways refer to how to save "profile" is one of the terminology issues). Follow the steps as they are explained for each stage and you should be fine.

PS: Test this on a very small sample project first. That will save you a lot of frustration.

PPS: There are several manual steps that will have to be repeated perfectly each time you tweak something. Failing to do so, or having any variation in keystrokes, will trash that iteration and you'll have to try again. I've complained to Sparx about this, but to no avail.
No, you can't have it!
