Diagram Sterotype
« on: March 03, 2010, 09:22:26 pm »
Hello everyone

Is it possible to define a sterotype for a diagram, I find myself creating diagrams of the same type and having to go through the same routine to customise the diagram

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Graham,

You've touched on one of the fundamental issues of modelling using a modelling tool.

How do you describe the types of diagrams that you need and how do you maintain them for any model of non-trivial size?

I've worked on a proof-of-concept system to create auto-adaptable diagrams.  I intend to create a commercial product.

If you send me your email via IM, I can discuss some of these concepts.  Alternately, if you or any other users would like to discuss the nature and properties of the diagrams you'd like automaintained , here in the forum, that's fine.

HTH,
Paolo

If you're finding that, for example, you want all your class diagrams to have the "Use Alias" setting switched on and all your requirements diagrams to have tag value compartments displayed, then read up on template packages in the help. All you need to do is define a package as a template package, create a diagram of the required type in that package and set all the options required. This diagram will be used as the template for all diagrams of the same type that you create.

You might also like to look at diagram profiles as part of an MDG Technology.
