test cases / reports
« on: April 24, 2010, 01:15:45 am »
Hi,

Sorry If this topic was discussed elsewhere, the search function did not show anything.

I still use V7.1 of EA but haven't found any hints on real improvements on test reports and test cases.

I got a EA document with some test case package including several test diagrams (how a test should run). I found no way to create test cases out of these automatically.

After reading the test management quide I decided to use the test workbench on subpackages in the test case package to create the test cases themselves.

I did this because I found no way to sort the test cases. Basic sorting I'd expected to be by object. But still I need to be able to sort them according to the test run order.

Also I wanted to print the test cases and use them as a base for integrating testing (manually). The test machine cannot run EA and has special hardware I cannot control from my normal work station.

I found that the printed documents (landscape, maybe A4 size) create newline within words (like test type: standar
d). Also I cannot change the headline from "Integration Test" and found no way to use RTF templates.

I'd like to know you experience with testing and EA. Maybe I have a completely wrong approach to it.

Regards

Paul Lotz

You might have a look at Enterprise Tester http://www.catchlimited.com/index.php?page=enterprise-tester to make it easier to do what you want.

I think the enterprise tester is a good tool for large-scale projects (or big enterprises). For small companies or smaller projects (small codebase) however the 2-3 price of the EA for the testing department only might be a bit much. I think EA is already close to the basic features I need for making test cases.
