As-You-Type spell checking?
« on: September 04, 2009, 03:38:39 am »
Does EA support as-you-type spell checking? In other words, if I am writing a scenario in a use case, or a note on an object, or other areas where I am entering nominally free-form text, is it possible to get a spell check as I type, such that misspelled words are highlighted and, if clicked upon, offer suggested alternative spellings?

I don't think so.

I would strongly support this as a feature request.
After all, if my browser can do it, why not EA

Well for one thing, your browser assumes you are writing narratively.  There are a number of use cases within a modelling tool such as EA that make it non-trivial (but not rocket science) to implement.

There's a discussion topic sometime in the last month, I think, that discusses some other issues involved with structured spell checking.

I recommend starting a separate topic on the subject of spell checking within a product like EA and what some of the requirements and use cases around it might be.

Both this and the other topic could then point people to the more general discussion.  Once that's stabilised and provides a concerted user view, we can then present it to Sparx as a formal feature request.  (we can add the Unicode problems with spell checker to it).

Personally, I'm in favour of as much spell checking support as I can get...  :)  But it needs to be productive, not counter.

Re: As-You-Type spell checking? Linked RTF documen

Here's a puzzle, search as I might, I cannot find how to spell check a RTF document?
Or to enable spell checking in an RTF document as you go?
(note this is considerably different from checking in notes and similar text fields)

Looks like I should raise a feature request for an RTF editor spell checker?

Spell checking of RTF documents has been added in V8.0,
but not, it would appear, spell checking of unicode input.

Wot, NO macrons???

Macrons are one of my favourite special characters (although I have to admit I prefer them on their own - they're great for substitution markers)...   Rats!

Sparx, this has GOTTA be fixed!

These poor kiwis talk funny and they need a hand here!

With a little more research it looks like m[ch257]crons can be saved in notes and RTF documents,
but it is difficult to enter them (using in this case the m[ch257]ori keyboard) -- but you can paste them in (eg from word).
But in say, Package Names, you can enter (or paste) them, but they are lost on save.

What I would say though, it that when producing architectural documents from models (and who doesn't), and where these are visible to the business (and which aren't), it is important to get names correct, and without m[ch257]cron support the "just works"TM, these documents loose credibility with the business. Not unreasonably I expect to get words and names correct when I am talking about the business. Eg wh[ch257]nau, m[ch257]ori, hapu.
