EA - Floating license
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:18:39 pm »
Hi,
Is there anyway for making the floating license automatically be released when I close the EA, and automatically tried to be acquired when I open the EA so I won't be needed to press the 'AddKey'/'ReleaseKey' every time?

Thank you,
Elad

Yes it is possible. You need a keystore server (http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/ea/floating_licenses.html) configured to auto checkout/checkin.

See the user guide for more information at http://www.sparxsystems.com/bin/SSKeyStoreUG.pdf
Best Regards,

Michael

What release of EA are you using?

The Keystore Administrator would normally set things up so that the shared/floating key is automatically released when the user logs off EA. So this should be happening for you already. The Administrator should only disable this if the user is working away from the server (eg on a laptop) and needs the key over a number of work sessions.

There is also the caveat that if you log off and the key is returned to the keystore, you only get it (or a parallel key) back when you log on again if there is a key available. If other users have taken up all the keys, you have to select another type of key or another keystore (if there is one) through the License Management dialog. Or wait until one of the other users logs off.

Thanks to Michael for teasing these points out.
Best Regards, Roy
