SDK access to Project Transfer and security
« on: November 21, 2008, 04:03:22 am »
Two questions:
1. Is it possible to access the Tools->Data management->Project Transfer... functionality via the SDK?
2. Is it possible to access Project->Security->Manage Locks functionality via the SDK?

Thanks

AFAIK... [and see the caveat at the bottom of this post.]

1) No. We (the user community) have asked Sparx to fill in this and other gaps. I believe they (the Sparxians) are considering these on their merits. The best way to make progress in this area is to file a feature request directly to Sparx. This will help they gauge the relative priorities of their audience.

Use the Feature Request link near the bottom of any forum page.

2) Not at the level you might want. I do not think you can set up the privileges themselves, just lock and unlock things according to the privileges accorded to the credentials you provide.

You might get some additional functionality by opening the repository with a username and password; there's an alternate method that allows you to provide credentials. Still, this seems like a far cry from what you are looking for.

You might also be able to get some similar effects with a DBMS repository by controlling access privileges on the DBMS back end. This would be outside of EA, and subject to the capabilities of the product you use. Not great, but it might work for some purposes.

With any luck I'm wrong, and someone (anyone) can set me straight. Maybe things have changes since I last looked at these areas. [It would not be the first time.]

No, you can't have it!
