How do you create user interfaces (GUI) ?
« on: August 27, 2010, 10:43:19 am »
Hi all! Nice to meet you :)

Absolutly new to this tool and modelling.

I didn't find anything about "GUI" or "User Interface" on this forum.

Can anyone tell how can I create user interfaces or GUIs with this tool?

Thanks in advance.
Ricardo.

Hopefully you meant model user interfaces.  This link should help.

EA does indeed provide a GUI, or User Interface design tool. Above the toolbox click on "More Tools..." and then select "User Interface"

The toolbox will provide a "Screen" element on which you can drop gui widgets.

These widgets and screens can be linked by "Navigate" connectors to show how a user would progress from screen to screen

Hopefully this will provide what you are looking for

Cheers

Phil

Hi Ricardo

As Stan n Philip have pointed out EA provides rudimentary GUI mockup / layout bits... personnally I've never found them very usefull(better to use a form that stakeholders already understand, and windows/mac both have free easy to use GUI Designers... and folks who readily grasp GUI dont benefit either).

Can I ask what aspect of the GUI / Uix you wanted EA to model?  What result are you seeking?

EA is a nice tool, but not a magic bullet or a good graphical user interface designer.

have fun yeah

To add to this,

We use EA's GUI diagrams to specify the GUI towards development.
To communicate about requirements with the business we use Visio mockups (and we link those to the EA GUI element).

I'm definitely not saying that this is the ideal solution, but it allows us to
1. Document the GUI elements in EA, including all traceability aspects
2. Communicate effectively with our business clients regarding the requirements.
