Enterprise Architect vs Team Foundation Server
« on: November 16, 2010, 06:38:48 am »
Good Day,
This is perhaps a very odd question but I have been tasked with determining if Team Foundation Server will meet our documentation needs or if we need to purchase Enterprise Architect. After doing some research, it seems like TFS is more of a documentation depository(for lack of a better term regarding documentation) and Enterprise Architect is actually used for creating that documentation. While TFS does create some very handy reports, spreadhseets, blah blah blah, it doesn't actually create the UML diagrams based off of user entry, etc... I am very new to both applications so any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

It is and odd question. You are really comparing apples and lemons here. Those two applications serve completely different purposes.
From wikipedia:
Quote
Team Foundation Server (commonly abbreviated to TFS) is a Microsoft product offering source control, data collection, reporting, and project tracking, and is intended for collaborative software development projects
EA is a UML modelling tool, there is virtually no overlap between the functionalities of both products.
In fact we use both at my current client.
