Tracking Changes in RTF Document Templates
« on: December 17, 2008, 03:45:48 pm »
We are looking at rolling out EA across multiple regions and moving our teams away from using Word, Visio etc for producing functional  / technical documentation. We have managed to produce some good templates using the RTF editor and master templates, however we have run into difficulties reflecting changes in the model between the various versions. Ideally we would like to reflect changes in a similar vain to the 'track changes' functionality of Microsoft Word so that our clients can see exactly what has changed.

I know that EA has a compare facility which enables differences to be compared and the ability to highlight the exact change within EA itself (albeit that you cannot do anything with this to export the details), however the RTF functionality appears to only enable the complete element note to be displayed (using the Audit tags) in its entirely rather than just the bit that has changed. This would be fine for minor modifications to the model, however it makes the RTF document unreadable for wholesale changes that come about from a review for instance.

Is there an ability within EA which I am missing which would enable us to succinctly reflect the changes we have made to the model within our RTF generated documentation without having to manually do so?

The Word/OpenOffice: Compare and Merge (not Track Changes) can be used to show differences between two RTF reports of different Baselines.  This can be good for Viewing/reporting of these differences.
