Dealing with large EAP File
« on: February 18, 2011, 03:59:17 am »
Hello everybody,

We currently have a large EAP File (1.5 gb size), and EA is having trouble to manage this file. Somethings it takes too long to save and others we had lost diagrams or elements.

How large an EAP file is desirable. And how we can help the tool to deal with this size of file? :(

I suggest that you use a 'real' database,

The eap file is really an access 97 database so with a file that size you are going to experience problems. In the first instance you could try compacting the file from the menu tools>manage .eap file>compact .eap file. That may alleviate your problems for a short time. Make sure you back your file up first just incase something goes wrong. ;)

In the 2nd instance Skiwi is right you should use a real database such as SQL Server, Oracle etc. If money is tight you could try SQL Express edition its free  :)

Hope that helps

Note also that if you are using access 97 file format you should (and everyone should, and Sparx should make it mandatory) convert it to Access 2002-2003 or Access 2000 file format. Don't forget to change your setting to use Jet 4.0
