Copy and link elements
« on: March 19, 2011, 01:58:58 am »
Hi,

I have some elements which are used in several diagrams. Therefore I copy them as a Simple Link. But the problem is that the 'Simple Link' elements aren't showed in a package view (don't know the correct name, but I mean when you drag and drop a package onto a diagram). I only get to see an empty package. Is there a way to show copied elements in a package 'summary'.

Thanks in advance

Hi skelesp,

Not as far as I know...  The rendering you see is for items physically defined (by nesting) within the package.

Unfortunately there is no mechanism for creating "hyperlinks" in the browser to "real" elements elewhere in the browser - like there is in diagrams.

HTH,

Ok, thanks for the answer. I'll stop searching for a solution then... (but I keep hoping for a new feature in some next version of EA :))

You MUST report a bug or Request a Feature using the links below...
Otherwise NOTHING will happen...

Actually...

Tools | Options | Diagram | Appearance | Show Linked Items in Package.

If you are looking for one instance of a linked item in the package rendering (regardless of how many instances there are) then it may NOT be what you are looking for.

EA seems to put as many copies of the SAME item as there are links in the package.

Also, under v9 Beta it's in: Tools | Options | Diagram | Behavior | Show Linked Items in Package.

Yes, indeed Paolo. I've come across this problem yesterday... But it's better than showing nothing. So, if there is no solution for this problem, I'll keep working like this :)

I'd suggest a bug report - since it's clearly one.

Also, it would be good to make it a local style option - both at the diagram and package diagram item level.
