EA 9 documentation?
« on: April 27, 2011, 06:17:08 pm »
Is there any preliminary EA 9 documentation available that I can read before installing?

Specifically major changes compared to EA 8, and whether I can install EA 8 and 9 side-by-side, or need to set up a virtual machine to try out EA 9.

Thanks!

EA V9.0 is still in beta so you can install it in parallel with V8.0

Full release details and links to download files and resources can be found here:
http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/betas.html

If you want to look at the documentation then suggest installing the latest beta and looking through the on-line help.

Happy to help

I've setup the EA 9 side-by-side to my EA 8, and unfortunately I experienced an issue with my tooling when trying to connect to the running instance of EA.
I had to re-install version 8 to fix it.
I think v9 uses a different name (not "EA.App" in the "running object table" or something like that, need to investigate further)

Thanks to both! I've decided to install it on a virtual machine, just to make sure, and it seems to work just fine.

Geert, if you're having trouble with that my suspicion is that for some reason EA is not registering itself properly and I would appreciate it if you let support know any details that you have to reproduce it.

Simon,

I'll try to find some time to test it again and send you the details.

Simon,

The problem disappeared on my work computer (XP 32bit) after uninstalling/reinstalling EA.
But now I have the same problem on my home computer (Win7 64bit), and no amount of uninstalling/reinstalling seems to fix it.

I checked the RunningObjectTable, but I can't find a difference there. Both mention !Sparx.EA.App:<someNumber>

I'll compare the registry keys between the two installations and let you know what I find.
