Bad Sequence Graphic Generator
« on: June 15, 2011, 02:28:27 am »
I have reported this as a bug. Unable to generate good png or gif files for larger sequence diagrams, AND zoom in just ends in unsharp unreadable text.

Does someone know how to generate very large diagrams?

EA is able to show you such very large diagrams very nicely, mainly sequence diagrams 1300 time 11000 pix in x direction is no problem.

However once you deside to generate this diagram for a web site, a web site for the reviewer community, larger sequence diagrams can not be read. I tried different viewers, bad lucke.

So I think it is a bad setup of the png andor gif gif generator.

GIF is even wors, it does not show up with any diagram but elements are there, as I move the mose over the emty drawing area.

Make sure you've set the Image Memory Limit on Tools | Options | Diagram to the max.

Setting this memory limit high as you recommend is a problem with my large modells (>180MB). It claims and runs into errors during report generations and suggests to lower this limit. I have a 4GB Vista System but dealing with memory issues seems to be everywhere a big problem.

But I will do it as you recommend and let you know.
Thank you

And it is an aboslut nightmar.

setting image memory to 512 MB or higher then lowest allowed value results in an error, which does not provide png or gif output for the element in question. This over and over again for many diagrams.

Setting this image memeory to the lowest possible error free operating value, provides me badly rendered png files and nothing for gif files for large sequence diagrams.

They are just not readable by any viewer, IE beeing one example.

Its a nightmare, and there are only 18 life lines and I work with stack 1 to keep it simple, and the highest message number is 1365 of course with a lots of loops and recursion.

It would help if we have a viewer like EA uses to show the diagrams!

Such a viewer would be fantastic, integrated maybe as a plugin to IE as it also shows proper color for loop frames and not black.

Also, there are better formats and standars i.e. the CAD world uses other standards to view crisp and clear pictures from parts or only a bit, afragment of it, and a lot of this software is i.e. open source. i.e. BLR-CAD as a 3D solid modelling SW.

Reproducing the bugs is very simple:

Just take a larger sequence diagram, one from tracing a current thread, adjust Tools Option Diagram Image Memeory to 512 MB or just above 128 MB and then do a Diagaram Save Image for the Sequence Diagram you have open.

Selecting the JPG format or PNG gives by far the best results. But remaining formats produce badly rendered output.

Then take the MS photogaller viewer and move the diagram by the hand arround. Take the default zoom when opening as intermediate zooms because this zoom fits best to show character resolutions.
