EA 9.0 and 7.5 coexist?
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:31:18 pm »
Can EA 9.0 and 7.5 coexist on the same machine, to be called up as needed?

Are there differences in the database format (.eap) so that once a project is used with 9.0 it can no longer be used with 7.5?

I'm working with both and have encountered no problems. Simply rename the EA folder to EA7.5 and install EA9. You can start the EA7.5 exe manually via dbl-click.

So, you have run into no incompatibilities in the database format between 7.5 and 9?

No, no issues so far, and I'm running 9.0 for a few months now where the rest of the team is still on 7.5.

OK, thanks, Geert.  And I thought I was the only one still running 7.5! :-)

We wanted to upgrade to 8.0 almost a year ago, but we found the bug with the disappearing spaces a show stopper.
That bug didn't get fixed before 9.0

Good morning, q.

Well, it appears it won't allow me to do that.  It tells me I have to uninstall version 7.5 first and asks if I want to do that automatically, and when I say "no", it will not continue the install process.

Just say yes.
I've you've renamed the folder it won't delete any of the program files.

Rename the existing folder - eg. EA_75
This fools it and all is well to run the EA9 installer.

PS: I'm running 8.0 and 9.0 concurrently on the same model on the same machine.  this is because sync stererotypes is broken on 9.0

@Geert: the EA-COM components get overwritten when installing EA 9. Did you experience any strange behavior?

Guess, it's still more safe to install the "second" EA into a virtual machine.

Yes, I did experience some strange stuff now and then (like EA crashing when I tried to "attach to running process" in VS), but that got solved by uninstalling/reinstalling EA
