External link TO diagram?
« on: August 10, 2011, 05:32:31 pm »
Is there a way to create a link that not only opens an EA file, but opens one (or several) diagrams as well?

I would like to send an email to a colleague, of the kind "please take a look a these diagrams, and let me know if they are OK".

Or are there other ways to achieve this?

Hi,

I think you have several options.

1) you can right click on each diagram and "Copy node path to clipboard" and paste them into your email. Your collegue should then be able to log into EA and navigate to the specific diagrams easily.
2) export the model to html and send your collegue an email containing the url of the specific diagrams in the exported model.
3) under version 9 you could use the "internal mail" capability to send an internal mail with a link to the diagram (note i've not used this capability yet - so not sure here).

Any help?

Regards,

Jon Ridgway.

Thanks!

The internal mail sounds interesting, but it simply doesn't work ("Select the appropriate toolbar icon, context menu option or message button to create, reply to or forward a message" - right, and if I cannot find a single such toolbar icon, context menu option or message button?)

But the other options sound good for now!

There's also a free (and open source) addin EA Protocol handler that does exactly that.
