RTF Use Case Template
« on: September 22, 2011, 12:40:59 pm »
It's been a few years since i seriously used EA, I must admit it has come along way in that time (although the modal dialoge behaviour still annoys me).  In any case, I'm pleased to see the inclusion of a structured specification for use cases which works quite effectively.  My issue is that the generated RTF document bunches all the steps up in one paragraph which is impossible to read.

Is there a way to get it to lay out each step on a new line, giving the step number a better sized font (it's tiny and superscript) and ideally display either the actor or the system icon as saved for the step?

Also the level 3 heading seems to be smaller than the level 4 heading which reads funny.

There are two ways to get at the structured scenario text. One does what you have described (using a single substitution), the other allows you to iterate over the steps and format them however you like.

I'm using the structured specification. I'm finding that the output has very small step numbers and that each step directly follows the last instead of starting on a new line.

I really need each step to start on a new line as it's just unreadable as a massive blob of text - looks like vomit.  Is there a way to do this? (short of inserting a new line in every step out of my use cases).

Can you give me a example of the output you want EA to give you. For a client of my, I made a template for the use case specification.

Maybe I can help.

I'd love to see a sample template to present a use case like this:

Quote
UC1: Authenticate User
Basic Path
1. System presents list of User  names and prompts to enter credentials or to create a new account
2. User selects a logon name
3. User enters logon password
4. User submits credentials to System
5. System validates credentials
6. User is authenticated

Alternative Paths

5a. Credentials are invalid:
5a1. System presents error message to user.
5a2. Go to step 1 (main path).

...

I don't mind if it says "1" instead of "5a1", but the 5a, 5b, 5c in the title and so on are pretty much what I would like to see.

Thanks for any help!
