Version Control & (External) Images
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:19:05 am »
I have models using UPDM. The OV-1 diagrams have images that have been pasted in from external sources (i.e., not composed of UML elements). These models are under version control.

Unfortunately, unless I'm doing something wrong, these images are not being placed into version control using the EA 'Check In' action. This is demonstrated when another team member imports the model branch and finds a blank boundary element in the diagram.

Currently if the diagram has an empty boundary element, the only solution is to
a) manually export the images (as reference data),
b) check them into the version control system manually (i.e., outside of EA),
c) Have other team members check out the file,
d) Import the images (as reference data),
e) Check out the package with the empty diagram boundary element,
f) Add the image using 'select alternate image'
g) continue with their work until another team member complains about  the package being locked.

Of course, if the diagram package is released without checking it in then the user who went to the trouble of adding the image to the diagram loses their work. But, if they check-in their work, then anyone else who subsequently updates the model will lose their images (if they had them).

Any solution?

No. Images (and other so called reference data) are not VCable in EA.

There's an option to export images with XMI in the XMI options but I'm not sure how this affects VC.
