Reducting sizwe of Sparx file
« on: January 24, 2012, 05:58:01 am »
I have a Sparx file which is 160 MB in size.

I have deleted all the loaded images (settings->images) stored in the file reducing the file size to 110 MB after i compacted the file (Tools->manage EAP file->compact file)

I then deleted everything under the project browser then compressed the EAP file resulting in the file growing to 115 MB.

When i export the xml of the diagrams then import them into a new file the project is only 50 MB in size but lacks the images. Does anyone know what i could look into removing to reduce the size of my sparx file?

Which edition of EA are you running?  Do you know if you perhaps have Auditing enabled on your EAP model?

If auditing is enabled, clearing the audit logs could help.

Have you tried a project transfer (Tools|Data Management)?
If the new file has the same size as the old file then at least you know there's no overhead in the file, and the size is from actual content.

I'd go and ask Bill Gates (or his funny successor) what awkward database format that is.

Thanks everyone for the help. The auditing logs was the issue. By deleting the unused images and auditing logs i was able to go from 167 MB to 30 MB!
