Step by Step how to use Enterprise Architect (EA)
« on: March 02, 2012, 12:02:43 am »
Hi,

I have searched this topic and I have noticed that people who respond assume that the person wants to learn UML, in most cases I am sure this is true however this is not what I am looking for.

If I can get a copy of the "Book Store" example used in this video it would be all that I need:
http://www.sparxsystems.com/resources/demos/eatalkthrough/EA_TalkThrougha.htm

With EA I can figure out how to create Requirements Model, Use cases, and the many other models with very little effort.

My problem is EA has many cool tools that I would like to use such as linking each of the models as I create them and having an over view of what was linked and what was not in the Relationships matrix.  Also the documentation feature that creates html documentation is another cool feature I want to use.  However my fear is if I do not build my diagrams they way the application wants me to I will learn after the fact that I should have built my diagrams another way.

I want to avoid that pain of rebuilding my diagrams because I did not follow the method the application expected me to follow.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I join in to this question...

Is there any example model showing a "best practice", "real life" way of structuring a project, connecting model elements for traceability, connecting models with requirements etc.?

The example model that comes with EA seems to be targeted more at demonstrating EA features than showing best practice ways for modeling...

It seems to get common practice that people want to avoid pitfalls by just doing nothing than crying "why didn't anybody help me?". It just hurts me.

There are two approaches: 1) go to a teacher/have a payed lesson. 2) Find the pitfalls by falling in.

If you don't like that comment which is most likely, just forget it.

You are right on the money with that statement the example provided is not much help if you wanted to follow a best practice method.

I have decided to go use the product without the walk through and I have given up on first diagram of basic communication scenario diagram with custom images instead of UML images.

I wanted to do something like this...

Or like in the sample "Book Store" scenario: Purchase Domain in this demo...
