Parent and child DFD
« on: March 27, 2012, 09:22:24 pm »
Hello everybody!
I'm using the trial version of EA.
I would like to define a Context Diagram (a DFD) for specifing the external entities which "my system" exchange data flow to.
I create a new DFD Diagram representing the first level decomposition of "my system":
I create a process named MyProcess
I create an external entity named MyExt
I create a data flow named MyFlow

Then I would like to perform a functional breakdown of MyProcess in 2 child processes in another DFD. In the new DFD MyFlow should connect MyExt with one of these 2 child processes. How can I do that?

Thank You

Search for "Make Composite" in the help file and/or this forum.

thank you for your answer!

I'd like to know if it's possible to do this also with the Processes (in DFDs), not just with the Activities. I tried to do what you suggested with the activities and it worked, but the option "show composite" it's not selectable from a Process.

thank you again!

There's a limitation. Probably due to graphical constraints. It's easier to render a diagram into a square rather than an arrowed shape.
