Microsoft Word 2007 Import...
« on: July 27, 2012, 06:59:04 pm »
Hi all,

I want to know if there's a way that I can import requirements from a file saved in Microsoft Word 2007 so that they will be populated as requirement elements into a project in EA.

If this is not possible, is there anything else that might speed up my current process of copy/pasting from word into newly created requirement elements in EA every time.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Try the following:
- make your text source (Word) appear in a smaller window than EA
- in EA have an open diagram (preferred Extended/Requirement)
- select some text (chapter/text) in the text source
-  drag the selected text onto the EA diagram

the rest should be obvious.

Note that the first line of the selection before a newline is assumed to be the title and the rest to be the notes.

If the requirements are in a table then you can dump it into Excel (whihc handles tables automatically) and then use the automation interface to upload them.

Geert put a starter for the upload spreadsheet in the community forum, you may need to edit it depending on what you want to upload (I modified it to support creating packages and different sorts of tags)

You will also have to clean up the spreadsheet before uploading, for example ensuring that there is no missing data and correcting the layout where an extra row has been created because of a CR in the text.
