Exporting "Alter Table" command in DDL

Does anyone know how to get the generate DDL tool to export a table with the command Alter Table rather than Create Table?  I cannot seem to find any steps on how to do this.  In the Generate DDL popup, I've tried doing a "comparison" between my DDL and the database.  Which after 10+ minutes finally returns some results.  The problem is I can't do anything with these results.  There is no copy/paste or export its just a popup with not user actions.  Any help or advice is appreciated.
