Multiple diagrams using same elements
« on: December 10, 2012, 03:35:09 pm »
Hi,

I'm a beginner at EA so please forgive me if the question is trivial.

So at the moment, I am modifying an existing process. As I need to compare the processes side by side, I've just copy and pasted the old diagram into a new diagram on the same package.

My question is, I've noticed that whenever I add connectors to one diagram, I have to go into the other diagram and delete, then opt to hide the connector.

Is there a way I can modify relationships between elements in one diagram, and automatically not have it reflected in the old diagram?

Additionally, I would like to ask, would I be better off not reusing the elements at all , and just creating a new diagram in a new package with an identical set of elements? If so, how do I actually go about copying and pasting an entire package? I can not seem to have this feature at all.

thanks for your help.

To copy a package right click in the project browser.

This feature has been added in one of the latest version (8 or probably even 9), so if you are on an older version that might not exist yet.

wow, can't believe i didn't see that item. It had been listed there all along.

Thanks!

PS - so is it good practice to start a new diagram within the same package using the same elements, or is it better to create a whole new package with an identical set of diagrams? Or does it not matter?

If you have a need to keep the AS-IS model in order to compare it with the TO-BE, then I think it much more practical if you keep some kind of read-only copy of it.

Otherwise you'll never be sure that the AS-IS really is the AS-IS and not already modified by changed in the TO-BE.
