Stuck custom toolbox items
« on: April 08, 2013, 12:39:48 am »
I had been experimenting with creating custom toolbox items.   Somehow, I cannot get a set of them to go away!   Even with no profile, or MDG technology loaded in the Project Resources, I still have an old set of toolbox items that I would really like to not have anymore!   I even tried removing and reinstalling EA, afterwards the stuck custom toolbox comes right back!   Where is that stuff being stored?   How can I get rid of the stuck custom toolbox items?

Thanks,
Frank

If you turn off the related MDG it should be gone. EA loads it only on startup from an activated MDG. If the MDG is turned off or gone away there should be no remainder.

Should be, but that's not the case.   The stuck custom toolbox items are there even if no project is loaded.

But have you tried what qwerty suggested and selected Settings | MDG Technologies and deselected the Enabled checkbox against the MDG Technology that the toolboxes came from?

I see from your previous post that you have been using the Profile Helpers. They are a release 10 feature, and in release 10 you should not need to use the Resources window at all for Profiles or MDG Technologies.

As I stated in the original post, there are no MDG technologies or profiles loaded.

Thanks,
Frank

Actually, I'm using two different versions.   I'm using version 10 on my desktop and version 9.3 on my laptop.   The primary work environment is with 9.3 and that is where the problem is happening.

Go Settings > MDG Technologies, click on None and click on OK. What do you see?

Maybe it's loaded via View/More Project Tools/Resources? (There's still this strange back door for MDGs...)

Well, I'm getting somewhere now.   I found an old project file that had the associated MDG Technology loaded in it.   I went into the Settings->MDG Technologies, and disabled (unselected) the technology.   Then I deleted the MDG Technology from the project resources pane.   Now the "stuck toolbars" are gone.   Previously they were there regardless of which (or any) project being loaded.   So I'm happy for that.   :D

But I have to ask about "this strange backdoor" (mentioned in a previous post on this thread).   That is View->More Project Tools->Resources  (Alt+6).

Also, while we're at it, let's talk about this statement as well:  "in release 10 you should not need to use the Resources window at all for Profiles or MDG Technologies".

So, for 9.3 and 10.0, what is the proper/recommended way to load MDG Technologies?

Thanks,
Frank

The proper way is to use Settings/MDG(/Advanced) to load profiles. The View/... is a relict from older EA versions. I can't recall the exact version, but it must have been around V6 where the Settings/MDG was introduced (and recommended). I don't know why they keep this View/... as for now its only use is to start confusion.

I just discovered that if you load a new MDG Technology using Settings->MDG Technologies... it creates the toolbox panes the way that your model suggests.

If you load the MDG Technology using the project properties, all toolbox stereotypes are put into a single toolbox page which has the name of the profile.

This answers another post that I had recently submitted!

Thanks,
Frank
