Referenc to documents
« on: July 27, 2013, 05:50:52 pm »
Hi,

we have different "documents" to the requirements, e.g.:

voice notices (e.g. mp3)
pictures (e.g. png)
written text (e.g. docx)
and so on.

We cannot  link directly those documents, because some stakehodler has no access to filer, where the mentioned documents are paced.

The question: would it be possible store the documents into the EA repository with refenrences in the requirements  onto them ?

Thanks,

Michel

If you want to copy the files into EA you could also copy them to where the EAP is stored. That does not make a difference.

You can include pictures directly in EA (Settings/Images). Word documents can be stored as RTF (but that works only partially).

If the mentioned documents are also a necessary part of the model you should think of ways to make them available to other stakeholders. Configuration management is nothing you can do on the fly. Gather your requirements and setup a meta-model (using EA) where you describe who needs what, where and when and how it can be supplied.

All of them were already done. We have also a concept who where what  how can access. The only open question was: how to integrate the mentioned documents for certain stakeholder. If tehre is no way, is ok. I asked it, because I'm a beginner...

I'm no clairvoyant ;) There might be more sophisticated solutions, but access to a common data store (can be VC, shared drive, caldav and more like that) is probably the best way to go. Putting any non-UML data in EA is not really recommended. You should design the hyperlinks accordingly. You might consider to use the Files tab properties or elements.

Possible but dirty solution:

Extend your database with another table. and store all additional "elements" like file or information in there.

I did that once for a customer to incooperate there usability department and there electronics/mechanics developer.

HTML-Report for that was never intended or tested.
