I think this is a bug and will be reporting it as such, but I cant believe EA operates like it does sometimes. Its so frustrating that I feel I have to let off steam here.

A very simple scenario.

Chuck a few connectors on a diagram and lo and behold, superimposed labels. Select a label and its handles appear. Hover over a handle and the cursor changes to a double headed arrow indicating change size of label. Click and the damn thing selects the superimposed label rather than the handle ... what' s that about? Very >:(

The resizing (double-arrow) only works for large labels with some blanks between words. Else it does not do anything. Well, it's as inconsistent as many other features we know :(

Not to mention, the entire selection process is finicky...

For this reason, I always use a trackball when working with modelling tools (Logitech Marble Mouse according to the label on the bottom). This totally separates "select" operations from "move" operations.

It is very frustrating sometimes, that a mouse will read a "click" as a "move then click"

I agree that the whole selection thing of clicking on connectors needs revisiting.
I  regularly find when I click it chooses the wrong connector (or a shape),
or I can't select a connector at all (unless I zoom to 400x)

I did do a fault report for the issue of clicking on an object makes it move,
and the response I got was

This is a phenomenon that we have experienced here, but we don't believe it is a fault of EA.

We suggest that you try reducing the mouse pointer speed in your control panel. (Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options > Select a pointer speed; set it slower). It would be wrong for EA to make any independent adjustments to this setting.

You can also try using the Snap to Grid options (Diagram | Snap To Grid
> Standard Grid or Smart Placement) to reduce the chance of small
accidental mouse movements registering as a move rather than a select.

Position and Team disestablished, thanks austerity.

Have you ever tried moving the start edge of a message in a sequence diagram to another lifeline?
60% of the time you find yourself moving the lifeline iso moving the message start, even when the mouse indicateor has clearly changed into a little black diagonal arrow (which should indicate you are selecting the message edge).

I usually get it right after three or four times. ::)
