EA Integration for Eclipse Dated 2009????
« on: December 18, 2013, 11:51:42 am »
I have been an EA user since about version 2.. Over time, I have spent thousands of dollars on the product - every cent out of my own pocket. While I have seen a couple of odd things happen over the years, the product has always grown more capable, over the entire time.

Today I attempted to use the Eclipse Integration, for the first time in a couple of years. Imagine my surprise that I don't see any updates on the plugin since early 2009! No, it wouldn't work. Then I realized that I have had to run the 64-bit Eclipse for the last 2 years.

It ends up that a large share of the enterprise uses of Java just can't scale in 32 bits. This is a huge product management issue for you guys. While the functionality of product itself has no real need for 64 bits, so many development platforms are moving that direction that you will soon face elimination as a viable platform if you stay stuck on 32 bits.

I've spent too much money on this to go back to the linked project level. If you have no plan for 64-bit - and I know how painful it is to transition - then you will eventually lose your integration assets. The path of "we are a full-featured IDE" is an no substitute for this, no matter what the attitude is internally.
