Help - import UML Profile for XML
« on: April 19, 2014, 05:56:13 am »
I've tried the "Generate MDG Technology File..." route of trying to import the XSD Profile referenced on this page, with no success:

http://www.sparxsystems.com/resources/xml_schema_generation.html

Am using Enterprise Architect v 10.0.1007, Corporate Edition.

New user, so please be gentle  :)

PS: what is the meaning of "One or more Packages missing Filename" when trying to "Generate XML Schema"?

You're mixing things. A MDG profile is something different from what the page tells. This refers to XSD import which will create a class structure from a XSD.

Arun
(As mentioned in the site)
TO import the XSD Data types, use Project -> Import/Export -> Import Package from XMI.

To import the UML Profile for XML,
  • Enable Resources window  (Project Menu -> Resources)
  • Right click on UML Profiles and choose the IMport Profile option

'Generate MDG Technology File" is used to create custom profiles / toolboxes, etc and build your own technology, which is not relevant in this case.

Thanks, Nizam!  What was not clear what the Resources menu under Project is optional, and that I have to enable that menu item.  Confusing the matter further are statements in the Sparx User Guide that seems to indicate that using the Resources window is deprecated;

You still can import a MDG via the resources window. In that case it is only valid for that single repository whilst the Advanced import makes it available for any repository you open. Another difference is that tagged values and stereotypes along with their shape script can be edited using the standard EA dialogues while the Advanced imported MDGs are completely transparent.
