Import (reverse engineer) IDL files
« on: April 24, 2014, 08:10:44 am »
I could not find an option to import Interface Definition Language files under tool->Source Code Engineering->Import Source Directory
If there is not a direct way to do this, does anyone have a work around?

Depending on the dialect of IDL you could try the DDS add-in or Corba MDG technology.

I am aware that the DDS add-in needs to be patched for compatibility with EA 11, but I'm not sure about the CORBA add-in.

I Installed the Corba add in...restarted EA, but do not see an option for IDL/Corba in the reverse engineering Tool.  Is there something else I need to do?

The CORBA add-in is VERY old, but it does include a help file.

You need to install the technology it provides into the model. You'll find the command in the Extensions menu.

Thank you for all your support to date.  I installed the technology via the extension menu.  IDL now shows up in the list when I attempt to reverse engineer, however, no file time is presented in the file extension dropdown.  I navigated to the directory containing the IDL, click ok but nothing happened.   Any other steps I may have missed?

Sounds like something may have changed to make it incompatible.

You can probably still import by manually specifying the extension when you select a file, in particular the directory import should still be possible.
