« on: July 17, 2014, 07:36:51 pm »
Hi
Is it possible to only show certain connector types on a diagram?
I only want to show realisation relationships on a particular diagram

Any hints gratefully received

Thanks

Yes

Open your diagram
Select Diagram --> Advanced --> Show Visible Relations from main menu
On the dialog, select the relations you want to show

(they are grouped according to type)

Hope this helps

Cheers
Phil

Or you can use diagram filters. Depending on which version of EA you are using, it's something like

Diagram > Diagram Filters, click New Filter, enter Filter Name, click OK, search on Connector, Include > ConnectorType > Equal To > Realization, click OK, then select the diagram filter you just created.

But KP, won't that then mean the filter is applied to EVERY diagram in the model  ?  Unlikely to be a good solution if that's the case.

Yes and no - if the filter is left enabled, it will apply to any other currently open diagrams and any diagrams you subsequently open. If you enable the filter on a diagram and then disable it, you effectively use it only on the diagram you are reviewing.

However, you can't enable a filter so that another user then opens a specific diagram and sees the effect.  The Help is not very clear on that point, so I have edited it to state that, whilst a filter is available to any model user, USE OF the filter is specific to the user and you can't turn on a filter under your user ID for the benefit of another, independent, user.

That is good information Roy, thank you.  However I have to say that after what I just learnt, diagram filters now leave even more to be desired, at least in my case.

I would definitely like to apply a filter and have a diagram with the filter applied visible to other users.  I'd also really like to:
- create a diagram and populate it,
- then clone it multiple times and highlight different specific parts of it on each clone using different filters
- have the HTML output reflect the set of diagrams and applied filters

In my view, this would be a very useful communication and education mechanism.  In fact I think I'll add this in the suggestions and requests section.
