Connect to Element Feature between Class & Note
« on: August 19, 2014, 12:57:05 am »
Hello Experts,

I like the "Connect to Element Feature" and use it often.

I need a similar feature between an attribute of a Class and a Note. I want to show that the note belongs to an attribute (and not to the whole class).

Any idea?

Many thanks in advance

I guess you can't do that with notes. A possible workaround might be to create a boundary, link that to the attribute and place a note inside. Just a thought. No idea if that works really or whether it's practicable.

I guess he wants it attached to the attribute.

In both cases the link to the feature is purely a diagrammatic facility.

The link from an element to a feature in another element is always visibly anchored to the feature, but has no automatic text to identify it.

The link from a Note to a feature does not anchor to the feature, but automatically maintains the Note content with the feature name and description.

In both cases, there is a clear indication that the element 'belongs' to the feature.

Exactly. Thank you RoyC. This is the way I did it. But the links are linked to the class, not to the attributes. This would be confusing with more attributes and more notes. "Connect to Element Feature" can be linked to attributes.

Really? I would have thought it would be clearer having each Note explicitly stating that it belongs to its attribute, but then again you might be hankering for a hybrid of the two links that both stated what attribute it linked to AND hooked itself onto the attribute itself.

Your advice was the correct one. Yes, the attribute is mentioned in the text resp. note. I thought connecting the note with the attribute would be more precise. The major advantage would be that it can be further processed, e.g. within our software-development-process.

This does not work. Only Trace, Dependency and Information Flow is possible as relation type.

Any other idea of linking "something" to an Attribute? Does not need to be a Note. But cannot be a Class.

I got this

after dragging the association from Class2 to the boundary.

Actually you can create an Association from the Class toolbox directly.

This is what I am looking for. Thank you very much!

But I cannot connect the association to the attribute. Could you be more precise, please?

"Link to element feature" works for the Boundary. Sorry, I did not see this entry. Everything is fine. Thank you very much.
