profile contents invisible when imported?
« on: August 28, 2009, 11:26:58 am »
Hello,

I created a Profile following the guidance in the help files. This was creted in its own project.

I then created (exported) the Profile by selecting the topmost project.

In the confirmation/selection dialog, I noticed the UML 2.0 (preferred) button was greyed out and the EAP 4.0 button was available.

When I Imported the Profile into the resources area, a node for the profile was created in the resource tree but no subnodes were visible for my created stereotypes and enumerations (these exist in separate sub-packages in the profile). Also a container for tools named for my Profile was created in the toolbox, but no class diagrams for stereotypes or enumerations were created.

What might be wrong?

THanks,

Kimball

You'll need to specify exactly which versions of the the various components you are using - starting with the EA version.

The package that owns the profile needs to have the «profile» stereotype.

ok,

I'm using a fresh download of version 7.5.

I'll check that each of the packages in the solution explorer tree hierarchy have that 'profile package' stereotype.

Thanks,

Kimball

Only one package needs it: the one that you right-click to select the "Save Package as UML Profile" command...

Ok,

I rearranged the elements i created under a single package with the 'profile' stereotype and that worked fine.

Thanks for your help!

Wait,

I was wrong. although I moved the previously created stereotypes and enumeraitons into a newly-created package of the 'profile' stereotype, those elements do not appear when the profile is imported into a different project.

as before, the profile appears in the resource tree, but it has no nodes underneath it.

Also the profile does not appear in the search dialog for selecting stereotypes to apply to a class.

Now what?

Do I have to create a new profile package and create each of the stereotypes and enums again from scratch and see if that will work?

Thanks,

Kimball

And...

I tried it again with a new project, a new profile package containing a new stereotype.

same result, when importing the profile, no stereotype appears and the profile and the stereotype are not available in the stereotypes dialog for a new class.

What essential trick is missing from the documentation?

Thanks,

Kimball

If you can send an XMI export of the relevant parts of your model to Sparx support, someone will be able to look at it and advise you...
