Clicking on .eap file (re)starts installer

Not dramatic but somewhat annoying and disturbing:

I use to have a link to my current project's .eap file on my desktop to be able to directly open that file by simply double clicking it.

Since I installed v11.1 (over the previous v11.0) about a week ago clicking on that file after a reboot always restarts the EAP installer and not EA! The installer always starts, works for about 10 seconds and then apparently terminates and EA starts up. Later the day double clicking on the link directly starts EA as it used to.

Why is that so? What went wrong during installation so that .eap files are correlated with the EA installer and not EA itself?

Being probably one of the million windoze miracles I would recommend to remove the installation completely/delete all files, download the installer and try it freshly.
